Operative memory is executed usually on microcircuits of dynamic type with any sample (Dynamic Random Access Memory, DRAM). Everyone of bats of such memory is represented as presence (or absence) a charge on the condenser formed in structure of a semi-conductor crystal. Other, more dear(expensive) type of memory — static (Static RAM, SRAM) as an elementary cell uses the so-called static trigger (which circuit will consist of several transistors). The static type of memory possesses higher speed and is used, for example, for the organization of cache - memory.

Static memory

Static memory (SRAM) in modern PCs is usually applied as cache - memory of the second level to caching the basic volume of the RAM.

Static memory is carried out usually on basis ТТЛ-, КМОП-or БиКМОП-microcircuits and on a way of a data access can be both asynchronous, and synchronous. Asynchronous the data access which can be carried out during the any moment of time is called. Asynchronous SRAM it was applied on parent payments to the third — the fifth generation of processors. Time of access to cells of such memory made from 15 nanoseconds (33 MHz) up to 8 nanoseconds (66 MHz).

So-called cycles of reading / recording are applied to the description of characteristics of speed of operativememory. The matter is that at the reference(manipulation) to memory on reading or recording of the first machine word it is spent more steps, than for the reference(manipulation) to three subsequent words. So, for asynchronous SRAM reading of one word is carried out for 3 steps, recording — for 4 steps, reading of several words is defined(determined) by sequence 3-2-2-2 steps, and recording — 4-3-3-3.

Synchronous memory provides a data access not during the any moments of time, and synchronously with clock pulses. In intervals between them memory can prepare for the next portion of the data for access. In the majority of parent payments of the fifth generation the version of synchronous memory — synchronous - conveyor SRAM (Pipelined Burst SRAM) for which typical time of single operation of reading / recording makes 3 steps is used, and group operation borrows(occupies) 3-1-1-1 steps at the first reference(manipulation) and 1-1-1-1 at the subsequent references(manipulations) that provides acceleration of access more, than on 25 %.

Dynamic memory

Dynamic memory (DRAM) in modern PCs is used usually as operative general purpose memory, and also as memory for the videoadapter.

From used in modern and perspective PCs of types of dynamic memory are most known DRAM and FPM DRAM, EDO DRAM and BEDO DRAM, EDRAM and CDRAM, Synchronous DRAM, DDR SDRAM and SLDRAM, Videomemory MDRAM, VRAM, WRAM and SGRAM, RDRAM and some other.
